The subsidies, which the Spanish government divides between the Autonomous Communities, come from the Feder funds of the European Union. Given the funds are split among public entities, they amount awarded varies in each region.

When the Technical Construction Code was passed (Código Técnico de la Edificación) subsidies were eliminated for solar hot water installations in new buildings.

If the price of a solar hot water system exceeds the required minimum investment, applying for a subsidy could cover the difference. This is the same with solar heating systems.
